Yvette Amegatse

Oct. 21, 2021

Yvette Amegatse is an accomplished athlete, academic achiever, and passionate volunteer. Over a decade-long basketball career, she excelled as a centre for both Mother Teresa Catholic High School in Ottawa and the Nepean Blue Devils, occasionally stepping into the point guard role. She also competed in track and field, running the 100m, 200m, and relay events, and made an appearance at the Eastern Conference OFSAA for shot put.

Throughout high school, Yvette earned numerous athletic awards in basketball, football, rugby, and track and field—all while maintaining honour roll status, receiving Ontario Scholar recognition, and earning the Sylvester Quinn Memorial Award. In her senior year (2015–2016), she was named Senior Girls Basketball MVP, Senior Female Athlete of the Year, and received the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. Following graduation, she returned to the Nepean Blue Devils as a coach, leading her teams to gold and silver finishes over two seasons.

Yvette graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2021 with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. She went on to work with Ottawa Public Health for two years, contributing to the COVID School Support Team and Community Operations. Now studying medicine abroad, Yvette continues to pursue her passion for service while exploring her artistic side through her music career under the alias Yvette Alice.

Her dedication to community, sports, and health promotion is also reflected in her long-standing involvement with the Ottawa Sports Awards. She began volunteering as a high school student and, in 2021, joined the board of directors alongside her younger sister, Dana Amegatse, and her former high school basketball coach, Kim Mathieu.
