Mission Statement

The Ottawa Sports Awards will be the leading amateur sports awards annual event, recognizing sporting excellence in Ottawa.

Goals and Objectives

  1. The Ottawa Sports Awards will endeavour to recognize the leading athlete, irrespective of gender or age, in each sport contested to any significant level, in the City of Ottawa, in the previous calendar year.
  2. The Ottawa Sports Awards will endeavour to recognize the male and the female leading coach, sports team and overall outstanding athlete from the previous calendar year, and recognize each with an annually awarded trophy, based on their performance in the previous calendar year.
  3. The Ottawa Sports Awards will endeavour to recognize the outstanding sports administrator and outstanding sports technical official, both in terms of lifetime achievement contribution to sport, over their lifetime to date.
  4. The Ottawa Sports Awards will endeavour to recognize anyone who has made an outstanding contribution to sport, who may not qualify as a sport administrator or technical official, in terms of a lifetime achievement award. It is understood this award (called the Mayor’s Cup) will only be awarded in those years when a deserving recipient is recognized.
  5. The Ottawa Sports Awards will endeavour to recognize those community college and university student athletes who achieve gold medal winning performances in their respective sports, at the provincial (at a minimum), while attending post secondary institutions in Ottawa, during the previous calendar year.
  6. The Ottawa Sports Awards will endeavour to recognize those high school student athletes who achieve gold medal winning performances in sport at officially recognized OFSAA provincial championships from the previous calendar year.
  7. The Ottawa Sports Awards will always strive to base their award decisions on fair and equitable, non-political, unbiased, objective criteria.
  8. The Ottawa Sports Awards will always strive to be inclusive in terms of recognizing athletic achievement of Ottawa athletes that may be physically or mentally challenged, with special recognition ensured at the awards night, in the years recognizing the Paralympics and Special Olympics.
  9. The Ottawa Sports Awards will always strive to remain financially economical, in terms of admission to the awards night, ensuring all recognized athletes are financially able to attend to receive the recognition they have earned.
  10. The Ottawa Sports Awards will remain a City of Ottawa event, with Ottawa as the event sponsor, with the possibility of a corporate presenting sponsor(s).
