Sep. 15, 2021
The Ottawa Sports Awards proudly hosted the 2020 Lifetime Award winners for a special evening at City Hall on September 15.
In many ways it was a completely different Ottawa Sports Awards event: down from the over 600 guests that had attended each of the last three dinners to just 22 guests in attendance, including the organizing committee.
However, what remained the same was what has come to mark the Ottawa Sports Awards; the incredible gratitude shown by the City of Ottawa for the winners, respect for their achievements, and a sense of community.
With Mayor Jim Watson on hand to present the Mayor’s Cup to the Takahashi Family, and City Councillors Mathieu Fleury (Lowertown/Sandy Hill/Vanier) and Jean Cloutier (Alta Vista) presenting awards to residents of their wards, the intimate event was a wonderful chance to reflect on the careers of key members of the Ottawa sports community.

Mayor’s Cup Winners: The Takahashi Family
June, Allyn, and Tina Takahashi attended the event with Allyn speaking on behalf of the family. September 15, 2021 was declared Takahashi Family Day in Ottawa by an official proclamation, recognizing the family’s cumulative impact since the Takahashi Dojo opened in 1969.
Lifetime Award, Technical Official: Carol Anne Chénard
It was a family event for retired FIFA official Carol Anne Chénard as well, as she was joined by her parents, Sandra and Guy Chénard, who are both accomplished officials themselves.
Lifetime Award, Coaching: Eric Loucks
Eric Loucks was joined by his partner, Peter, and his nominator, Colleen Karam. Karam is the office administrator at the Minto Skating Club where Eric dedicated over 50 years of coaching.
Lifetime Award, Volunteer/Administrator: Dean Sherratt
Dean Sherratt was joined at the event by Paul Christopher, who submitted an exhaustive nomination detailing Sherratt’s many contributions to growing the National Capital Wrestling Club and contributing to his community.
